International work

The aim of our international work is to actively contribute to the development of a common Nordic and European internal market for electricity and gas. This in turn creates the conditions for increased integration in the energy sector.

More about us

Ei is a supervisory authority for the energy markets, which means that we are working for Sweden to have safe and efficient access to electricity, natural gas and district heating.

The Swedish Energy Markets Inspectorate (Ei) is an authority which is commissioned to strive for well-functioning energy markets.

Electricity

In Sweden, trade in electricity is deregulated. As the client, you can decide who you want to purchase your electricity from. However, electricity distribution via the electricity network takes place in a monopoly.

Electricity network operations in Sweden are therefore regulated by us at the Swedish Energy Markets Inspectorate (Ei). It is also our job to inform customers about how they can be active as electricity consumers.

Natural gas

The Swedish Energy Markets Inspectorate (Ei) is the authority that examines the gas grid operator's monopoly position in the natural gas market.

We do this in order to ensure that you, as the customer, shall not pay too much and so that the gas grid operator does not exploit its monopoly position. The trade in gas is deregulated. It is, in other words, a free market.

District heating

District heating is the most common form of heating for blocks of flats and commercial premises in Sweden. The customer's position is strengthened through our supervision and through an increased transparency in the operations of district heating companies.
